Welcome August with Saturday Sketch #004

August has arrived, and with it comes a new season of inspiration for me! For this week’s Saturday Sketch, I wanted to do more than just share a layout- I wanted to set the tone for the month ahead. Fall begins next month so August seems like a perfect time to begin exploring the textures, colors, and themes that will carry us into the season.

*I did edit the measurements for myself to make my A2 size card.

A Sneak Peak: Sunflowers Fields DSP

You’ll notice that my sunflower card doesn’t follow the card sketch exactly- and that is intentional. Sketches are meant to be a starting point, not a rigid rulebook. By using the upcoming Sunflower Fields DSP (available in September), I’m giving you  a little nudge of what’s to come. This paper is rich with warm tones and beautiful imagery, perfect for fall projects.

Stash-Friendly Inspiration

I could not resist pairing the sketch with stash-friendly favorites-pumpkins and DSP that many of us already have in our collections. This balalnce between new and familiar is at the heart of my teaching philosphy: use what you have, and let new products spark fresh ideas.

Why Break the Rules?

The sunflower card doesn’t follow the sketch exactly, and that’s the lesson I want  to highlight today. Sketches are guides, not mandates. They give us permission to adapt, to play, and to make each project our own. Whether you’re working with brand-new DSP or treasures from your stash, the sketch is here to inspire, not constrain.
This month I’ll be sharing sunflowers, leaves, and pumpkins and a sprinkle of not so spooky fun — a mix of new techniques ideas to inspire your fall crafting. 🍁🎃🌻

What’s Coming in August

Throughout August, I’ll be sharing:

  • Techniques- stencils and ink blending, two-step stamping and more
  • Embossing- How you can always heat emboss with the same color.
  • Fun folds, seasonal cards and scrapbook layouts.
✨ Try this sketch today with your stash, and share your version in the comments!
